"Onomea Bay Pali"

This painting was done on location at the Hawaiian Tropical Botanical  Gardens. My painting partner, Sandy, and I have yearly memberships  because it offers a rich assortment of plants in gorgeous settings,  including right along the ocean. We get shuttled to each location in  a golf cart and picked up at the end of the day. It doesn't get much  better than that!
This painting was completed in one sitting. Some white of the canvas  is still evident, and you can literally count the strokes in the  painting. When I looked at it later in the studio, I saw that there was a mood in it. I didn't want to destroy that. I continued to look  at it hanging on one of the walls that I keep in the studio for that  purpose. As time went on I saw that only a tiny reenforcement on the dark was all it needed, and signed it.
