Kealekekua Bay" by Margaret Stanton was created entirely on location near Captain Cook on Hawaii's Big Island. This amazing place on the leeward side of the Big Island, south of Kona, has a lot of history. Access to the Bay, and the gorgeous coves and beaches in the area is fantastic. Kayaking is available to visitors, yet you will find there is a low population in this part of the island, with its steep slopes straight to the top of Mauna Loa. Dolfins love this wonderful Bay at Kealekakua. |

"Kealakakua Bay" 2004 Acrylic 16 x 20"
This painting was created entirely on location in two settings. The brushwork is clear to see. There is a freshness evident in this piece that happens only once in a while. Due to a highly expressive application of the paint and the variety in which it is laid on the canvas, I captured an almost festive mood. This use of primary colors is always dazzling to the senses, and, yet made believable and sophisticated by a range of hues and values. There is no false slickness in this piece. It's freshness is a mark of it's sincerity and directness. It's a quality that I greatly value in painting.
I wish I could paint like this every time!
